THE
Civitella del Lago is a gorgeous village that sets on a hill dominant Corbara Lake , an artificial lake created by a dam on river Tiber.
This medieval village has characteristics hamlets, stone houses and a magnificent viewpoint from where you may enjoy an aerial view on the lake, on Orvieto town on the right side and on the Naturalistic Oasis of Alviano on the left side.
From 2005 at the center of the village is open a small museum, unique in the world, the Ovo Pinto Museum.
Inside of it are exposed thousands of eggshells of all the animal species; they are painted or hand-sculpted by professional artists, amateurs or children.
The art of painting eggs during Easter period is an ancient tradition dated back to the Roman period and it is used also today in several European countries and in Italy.
This is a poor art with a genuine taste. In the past shelleggs were painted with various flowers or herbs infusions; today there is the search for new coloring techniques with exceptional results.
From 1982, every year from Easter period to 1th of May, the Cultural Association Ovo Pinto, composed by volunteers, organizes the National Competition Ovo Pinto. During this event rages the creativity of a lot of persons
to realize with shelleggs several subjects.
There are issues connected to nature, religion, politics, cinema, actuality and astronomy. The fantasy of the painters is expressed in the realization of real artworks , giving life to characters, abstract figures, various symbols, landscapes rich of details.
The visit to this original Museum is suggested to all.
